End User License Agreement

Effective 1 October 2026 · applies to beta (TestFlight) and released builds · Privacy Policy

The short version: the app is yours to use. Your content stays yours, and stays on your phone unless you share it or report it. What the app puts together for you is automated and can be wrong. It is not a doctor. We keep no copy of your content that we could restore, so backups are in your hands. And there's no tolerance here for objectionable content or for people who abuse others. The long version follows.

1. The agreement

This End User License Agreement ("Agreement") is between you and Lil Dog Productions, LLC, a California limited liability company and the developer and publisher of YourCelf ("we," "us"). By downloading, installing, or using the YourCelf application ("App"), or by tapping "I agree" in it, you agree to it. If you do not agree, do not use the App. You must be 18 or older to use the App, and by agreeing you confirm that you are. If you use the App through Apple's TestFlight, Apple's TestFlight terms also apply; the beta terms supplement this Agreement for pre-release builds.

2. License

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App on Apple devices you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use, subject to this Agreement and the Apple Media Services Terms.

3. What YourCelf is, and is not

YourCelf is a private way to share photos with the people in your Circles. With your permission, it reads the photo library on your phone and gathers your photos into days, trips, places, and people. It does not ask for your location, your calendar, or your Health data. To name a place, your phone sends a photo's location (its coordinates, never the photo) to Apple Maps. We run a relay that passes sealed posts between phones and holds them, unable to open them, for up to 30 days until they are collected, and a report service that receives a post only when someone reports it. We keep no other copy of your content, apart from anything sent to us in a report or an email. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what reaches us.

3.1 What the App puts together for you can be wrong. Software on your phone groups your photos and labels them with titles, dates, places, and the names you have given to people. This is automated, not done by a person, and it can be wrong about people, places, dates, or events. You are responsible for reviewing anything you keep or share. Do not rely on it as an accurate record of events.

3.2 Not medical, health, legal, or financial advice. Nothing in the App is medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and nothing in it is legal or financial advice. Consult a qualified professional for any medical, legal, or financial decision. Never disregard or delay professional advice because of something the App showed you. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988 in the US) or your local emergency services.

3.3 Your content is on your phone, so backups are your responsibility. Most of what YourCelf knows lives only on your phone, and we keep no copy of it that we could restore for you. The backup the App makes is sealed and saved on your phone. It is included in your phone's own iCloud or computer backup if you have that turned on, but on its own it won't survive losing the phone. Settings can also save what YourCelf has recorded to a file you keep; your photos themselves stay in your Photos library. If your phone is lost, damaged, or reset and you have no backup, your content may be unrecoverable. We cannot recover data we never held.

3.4 Death and incapacity. The same principle applies to your estate: we hold no copy of your content that we could open or hand over, so we cannot provide it to heirs, executors, or anyone else after your death or incapacity. Your exports, your backups and their recovery phrase, and your own estate planning are the way to pass your story on. We have no obligation to recover, unlock, or transfer vault content for any estate or fiduciary, and laws granting fiduciaries access to custodian-held digital assets do not apply to data we never custodied.

4. Sharing (Circles)

When you share with a Circle, what you share is sealed (end-to-end encrypted) on your phone so that only the people in it can open it. Once you share content with another person, they hold their own copy and may retain it. Share only with people you trust, and only content you intend them to keep.

Your controls. Every post someone else shares has Report this to us and Block in its … menu. Blocking someone hides what they post everywhere in the App, makes your phone drop anything they send you, and stops your phone sealing anything new of yours to them. They are not told. You can leave any circle. The person who made a circle can take someone out of it; that person then gets nothing new the owner posts there. You can remove any post from your own phone. None of these can reach what is already on someone else's phone.

Reports come to us. A report goes to us, not to a circle's owner. When you report a post, your phone sends it to us unsealed so a person on our team can act on it. The Privacy Policy lists exactly what a report contains and how long we keep it. You can also write to us at hello@beyourcelf.com. Section 5 says what we do about a report.

5. Conduct and zero tolerance

There's no tolerance here for objectionable content or for people who abuse others. You agree not to use YourCelf for any of the following. These are the same rules the App sets out in its house rules:

You also agree not to share anything that is unlawful or that you have no right to share.

What we do about it. We act on every report within 24 hours, every day of the week. When a report shows that someone has broken these rules, we delete everything of theirs still waiting on our relay, we stop our relay accepting anything more from them, and we report to the authorities when the law requires it (for example, child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children).

What we can't do. We can't open what people share, so we act on what is reported to us. And we can't reach into phones: photos already on someone else's phone stay there. From there, the controls on your own phone do the rest: Block, leaving a circle, and, if you made the circle, taking someone out of it (section 4).

6. Your responsibilities

You agree not to: use the App unlawfully or to infringe others' rights; reverse engineer, decompile, or circumvent security or licensing except as permitted by law; use the App to store or share content you have no right to; or remove proprietary notices. You are responsible for the content you post and share, and for having the right to use it.

7. Third-party components and terms

Any third-party component included in the App is provided under its own license, and your use of that component is subject to its terms. When you use the App you must also comply with any third-party terms that apply to you, such as your mobile carrier's or internet provider's service agreement.

8. Intellectual property

The App, its design, and its software are owned by us and our licensors and are protected by law. This Agreement grants you a license, not ownership. Your content remains yours, and this Agreement gives us no license to it. We cannot open what you share through Circles. The only time we receive a readable copy of a post is when it is reported to us: then a person on our team handles it, we keep it for as long as the Privacy Policy says, and we pass it to the authorities when the law requires. If you send us feedback or suggestions, you grant us a perpetual, royalty-free license to use them without obligation to you.

Copyright complaints. Our designated agent to receive notices of claimed copyright infringement under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512) is: Copyright Agent, Lil Dog Productions, LLC, 14320 Ventura Blvd #2053, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423, United States; telephone +1 (818) 554-9592; email hello@beyourcelf.com. A notice must include the information that 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3) requires. Our designation is registered with the U.S. Copyright Office as DMCA-1081620.

9. Apple

This Agreement is between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the App and its content, for any maintenance and support of it, for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to the App, and for investigating, defending, settling and discharging any claim that the App or your use of it infringes a third party's intellectual property rights. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content, has no obligation to furnish maintenance or support for it, and is not responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to the App (including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, consumer protection, privacy, or intellectual-property claims). In the event the App fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund any purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this Agreement, and upon your acceptance of this Agreement, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce this Agreement against you as a third-party beneficiary. You represent and warrant that (i) you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo, or that has been designated by the U.S. Government as a "terrorist supporting" country; and (ii) you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

10. No warranty

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

11. Limitation of liability & indemnity

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF DATA, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM (OR, IF THE APP WAS FREE, USD $50). YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY US AGAINST CLAIMS ARISING FROM CONTENT YOU SHARE OR YOUR VIOLATION OF THIS AGREEMENT. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS, SO PARTS OF THIS SECTION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

12. Termination

This Agreement applies until terminated. It ends automatically if you breach it; you may end it by deleting the App. Sections 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14 and 15 survive termination.

13. Governing law and venue

This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any dispute arising out of or relating to this Agreement or the App will be brought only in the state or federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California, and you and we consent to the personal jurisdiction of, and venue in, those courts. We do not currently require arbitration.

The App is controlled and operated from the United States and is intended exclusively for users located within the United States. We do not intentionally offer services to or solicit data from individuals in the European Union, European Economic Area, or United Kingdom.

14. Entire agreement and severability

This Agreement, together with the Privacy Policy and, for pre-release builds, the beta terms, is the entire agreement between you and us about the App. If any part of it is found invalid or unenforceable, that part will be limited or removed only as far as necessary, and the rest of this Agreement stays in full force.

15. Changes & contact

We may update this Agreement; material changes will be surfaced in the App or on this page. Continued use after an update means you accept it. YourCelf is developed and published by Lil Dog Productions, LLC, 14320 Ventura Blvd #2053, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423, United States.
